Video Service Providers Want Control, Path to IP Delivery, and Support for BYOD

Today, it’s clear that video service providers have a few key requirements in any new technology rollouts.  Among the top criteria, they are looking at:

• Technology which leverages their broadcast ecosystem, eliminates or reduces capital (CapEx) expenses, and paves the way for the upcoming transition to IP delivery
• Control of the solutions they deploy, including access to source code and ability to select new vendors over time as their strategy evolves
• Support for multiscreen devices (including tablets and smartphones), while enabling bring your own device (BYOD) models

DLNA’s VidiPath is today rolling out in North America with leading cable operators.  The solution meets regulatory requirements of an open IP connection, provides a consistent approach to in-home delivery from a gateway to a thin client device and allowing rollout of lower cost set-top boxes for second and third screens in the home.  Most importantly, it paves the way for agreements with CE manufacturers to eliminate the set-top altogether while maintaining content security and the manageability and support of the solution.
