ABB Ltd Overview
Visit WebsiteABB is a multinational corporation headquartered in Västerås, Sweden, and Zürich, Switzerland.[5] The company was formed in 1988 when Sweden's Allmänna Svenska Elektriska Aktiebolaget (ASEA) and Switzerland's Brown, Boveri & Cie merged to create ASEA Brown Boveri, later simplified to the initials ABB. Both companies were established in the late 1800s and were major electrical equipment manufacturers, a business that ABB remains active in today. The company has also since expanded to robotics and automation technology.
ABB Ltd Awards & Publications
ABB earned a Top Implementer distinction for its quick installation and strong deployment base. However, the lack of zero-downtime deployment and weaker partner network than other market leaders keep ABB from scoring higher.
ABB’s PLC solution has extensive communication and connection capabilities, which helped earn the company a Top Implementer ranking in the Industrial Automation: PLC Hardware and Software market. The solution can be integrated alongside all major communication protocols, such as PROFINET, PROFIBUS, and Modbus RTU. The solution also provides MQTT functionality for lightweight cloud messaging, alongside OPC UA protocols for easy connectivity to Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), operator panels, and other IIoT assets.
ABB ranked as a leader in ABI Research's Sustainability Assessment of Large Industrial Solution Providers. ABB has strong market positions in electrification, process automation, motion, and robotics and discrete automation. ABB has committed to carbon neutrality in its own operations by 2030 and, in 2022, the group established a new target to work with its most impactful suppliers—which account for over 70% of supply chain spending—to reduce their emissions by 50% by 2030.
ABB is a leader in Industrial Automation on the support of its automation solutions for Levels 1, 2, and 3, and represents the fifth largest market share in the automation hardware market. ABB Automation Builder is a single common interface for configuring, coding, debugging, and maintaining automation projects, and can be used by engineers for PLCs, safety, drives, motion, and control panel solutions. The software has three different levels of functionality: basic, standard, and premium.
