UMC, an acronym for United Microelectronics Corporation, is a Taiwanese semiconductor company. It provides IC fabrication services, circuit design, mask tooling, assembly, and testing services to major markets in the electronics industry. Taiwan’s first semiconductor company, UMC was founded in 1980 as a spin-off of a government initiative. It owns subsidiaries, such as Unimicron, and is headquartered in Hsinchu, Taiwan.
