Panasonic, CATL, and GM/LG Energy Invest US$13 Billion in New Battery Factories and Machine Tool Builders like TRUMPF Will Help Fill Them

New product introductions are driving the need for new machine tools, and a prime example is battery manufacturing for Electric Vehicles. However, machine tool builders must provide comprehensive solutions with supporting software, not just discrete products, to meet more complex manufacturing process needs. At the same time, technology vendors must provide affordable solutions that scale up or down with demand with minimal cost impact to the overall machine tool offering. The goal for both hardware and software vendors is to establish new digital threads of connected equipment, but some are farther ahead than others, and there is a long tail of machine tool vendors lagging behind. TRUMPF's new laser welding machines are an excellent example of this combination of software and hardware to meet production needs.
