Increasingly, companies like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Alibaba Cloud are offering proprietary workload accelerators as a differentiating factor in the race for cloud dominance. Chip manufacturers face the dilemma of being a technology supplier and, in some cases, a strategic partner to these hyperscalers. They also face the looming situation of competing with these cloud platforms in providing intelligent workload accelerators, such as Smart Network Interface Cards (SmartNICs), Data Processing Units (DPUs), and Infrastructure Processing Units (IPUs) for enterprise deployments.
