Enterprises today are challenged with effectively protecting data in cloud environments. From addressing security threats and compliance obligations to deploying an appropriate solution that can provide secure data management across various environments while minimizing complexity, enterprises have their work cut out for them.
According to IBM’s 2023 Cost of a Data Breach Report, 82% of breaches involved data stored in the cloud, and nearly 40% of those resulted in the loss of data across multiple environments, including public cloud, private cloud, and on-premises. These breaches were also more costly, on average, than other breaches.
Addressing these challenges can, therefore, be costly and time consuming, and unsurprisingly, there is a high incidence of mismanagement in effective cloud-based data protection; due as much to a lack of skills as to a limited budget. In turn, this drives less confidence that the cloud can successfully protect corporate data to the level required by the enterprise and regulation.
Nonetheless, market solutions are available that can provide security and management to alleviate the complexity and the burden of protecting disparate data assets.
