Perfecting an Android Automotive Strategy
Report | 4Q 2024 | AN-5521
Get The ReportAAOS will become the leading infotainment OS, primarily due to its predeveloped automotive extensions, which considerably reduce software development costs, bring access to a large app developers ecosystem, and a user-friendly User Interface (UI). Notably, carmakers are very cautious about adopting GAS, starting with high-end, low-volume vehicle models as a Proof of Concept (PoC).
The most affected players will be Tier One suppliers, which will gradually lose their unique value proposition as integrators because of the AAOS Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) that allow for a separation between software and hardware. Surprisingly, automotive OS suppliers quickly adapted and repositioned their solutions to address areas not covered by AAOS, such as Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) for mission-critical functionalities.
Concerning GAS, navigation services suppliers are undoubtedly the most affected companies. However, they still hold unique advantages, such as offline-compatible platforms that maintain their competitiveness in the market.
