M2M Embedded Cellular Modules
Market Data | 4Q 2024 | MD-M2MM-173
Get The ReportThis update to MD-M2MM focused on forecasting the decline in 2G and 3G module shipments based on regional network shutdowns. Overall, current operator shutdown dates suggest that 2G and 3G module shipments will reach zero in 2027. This is, however, highly dependent on operator activities to either require or encourage their customers to upgrade installed 2G/3G devices to Long Term Evolution (LTE) or 5G. It is known that operator approvals for new 2G and 3G devices have declined dramatically with many regions not allowing any new 2G and 3G devices. As a result, LTE devices will grow to 95% of all Internet of Things (IoT) cellular module shipments in 2024. ABI Research expects that LTE will remain dominant through the 2020s; by 2030, LTE is expected to still hold a nearly 80% shipment share.
