Get The ReportNorth America lags behind both Asia-Pacific and Western Europe in terms of Electric Vehicle (EV) public charging infrastructure. Compared to North America's 179,320 public charging points (mostly Alternative Current (AC)-based charging points), Asia-Pacific and Western Europe have deployed 2.8 million and 660,000 EV charging points, respectively, as of 2023. In a decade's time, the trend will still be mostly the same, despite the North American public charging point installed base growing at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 35.4%.
While some of this discrepancy can be explained by more EVs being on the road in Asia and Western Europe, it doesn't tell the whole story. For example, Western Europe will have 1.8X more BEV registrations than North America by 2027 - yet have 4X as many public EV charging points for drivers to power their vehicles from. Therefore, the challenge of inadequate EV charging infrastructure is amplified in the North American region.
