The shipment of on-device AI chipsets will unlock novel productivity applications for mobile and PC devices, with 2024 being the year that the production of heterogeneous AI chipsets to support productivity AI workloads commences. These devices, capable of handling generative AI workloads on-device, are powered by chipsets like Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in the smartphone segment, and Intel’s Core Ultra processors in notebooks and desktops. The adoption of devices containing heterogeneous AI chipsets is set to accelerate between now and 2028, but immaturity in the application ecosystem will slow early adoption rates. As more applications leverage generative AI to support productivity, consumers and enterprises are expected to purchase new devices.
