5G RedCap for IoT
The first 5G RedCap module will be shipped in 2024, which will supply connected devices migrating from LTE Cat-4 and LTE Cat-6. Shipments are not expected to grow significantly until 2028, with the majority of shipments between 2024 to 2027 to Chinese and North American markets. Following the release of second-generation 5G RedCap chipsets in 2026, and the commercial availability of more price-competitive 5G RedCap modules in 2027, migration from LTE Cat-4 and LTE Cat-6 to RedCap is expected to accelerate in 2028 and 2029.
By 2029, 31 million 58%) of RedCap shipments, are expected in China, with 13 million, or 25% of RedCap module shipments to the United States. Early adoption is also expected in the rest of Asia-Pacific, with 5 million units, or 9%, of RedCap shipments in 2029.
