Electric Vehicle Smart Charging Platforms
Report | 4Q 2024 | AN-5545
Get The ReportVehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology turns Electric Vehicles (EVs) into alternative sources of energy that can be used by the grid. Using specialized connectors and cloud-based smart charging platforms, the vehicle battery temporarily stores excess energy and sends it back out to the grid when power is needed. This application will play a key role in mitigating power outages during peak demand hours.
As for market forecasts for V2G, 76,185 of new car sales in 2022 come equipped with V2G capabilities, with Western Europe accounting for nearly half (36,811) of total shipments. By 2027, just 47,047 vehicles will ship with V2G features, and only 1,638 shipments in Western Europe that year. The Asia-Pacific region is on track to dominate the V2G space by the end of the forecast period, comprising 79% of all shipments by 2027.
